Cerasuolo di Vittoria
About the wine
Cerasuolo di Vittoria is Sicily's first and only DOCG, a distinctive red wine born from the historic synergy between the powerful, structured Nero d'Avola and the aromatic, elegant Frappato. This blend, typically ranging from 50-70% Nero d'Avola and 30-50% Frappato, creates a wine known for its vibrant cherry-red color, floral and fruity bouquet, and a palate that balances depth with remarkable drinkability. The 'Classico' designation identifies wines from the historic heart of the production zone, often showing greater complexity with aging, developing notes of dried plum, tobacco, and leather. The region's unique Mediterranean climate, characterized by significant diurnal temperature shifts and sandy-calcareous soils, provides the ideal conditions for these grapes to ripen while maintaining freshness. It is a wine of ancient lineage, with roots tracing back to Greek colonization, representing the pinnacle of southeastern Sicilian viticulture.
