Cesanese del Piglio
About the wine
Cesanese del Piglio is a distinctive red wine from the Lazio region, elevated to DOCG status in 2008. It is crafted primarily from the native Cesanese di Affile and Cesanese Comune grapes, which must constitute at least 90% of the blend. Grown on the volcanic and limestone-rich soils of the Ernici Mountains, the wine benefits from a temperate climate with significant diurnal temperature shifts, promoting slow, complete phenolic maturation. The resulting wine is typically ruby red with violet reflections, characterized by a dry, harmonious profile with floral and fruity notes and a signature pleasant bitterness on the finish. The 'Superiore' and 'Riserva' designations offer increased structure and complexity, often showing garnet hues and spicy nuances from wood aging. This denomination represents a historic viticultural tradition in the province of Frosinone, where the rugged terrain and specific 'red earth' soils produce a wine of notable longevity and unique regional identity.
