About the wine

The Umbria IGT covers the entire administrative territory of the provinces of Perugia and Terni in central Italy. This designation is highly permissive, allowing for a wide range of wine styles including white, red, and rosato, as well as frizzante, passito, and novello versions. The region is characterized by diverse geopedological conditions, ranging from alluvial deposits and sandy-conglomerate hills to clay-marl formations, which provide a favorable environment for viticulture. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional cultivation methods that have deep historical roots dating back to the Etruscan era. Producers have significant flexibility in varietal selection, provided the grapes are authorized for cultivation within the Umbria region. The IGT serves as a broad framework for quality production, requiring specific minimum alcohol levels and organoleptic standards for each typology, while maintaining the flexibility necessary for regional winemaking diversity.

The production area for the Umbria IGT encompasses the entire administrative territory of the provinces of Perugia and Terni within the Umbria region. Additionally, vinification may occur in the bordering territories of the Province of Viterbo and the Municipality of Montepulciano in the Province of Siena.
