Offida
About the wine
Offida DOCG, established in 2011, represents the viticultural excellence of the southern Marche region, specifically within the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo. The denomination encompasses three distinct typologies: two whites, Pecorino and Passerina, and a structured red based on Montepulciano. The white wines are celebrated for their freshness, mineral complexity, and distinct aromatic profiles—Pecorino often displays floral and herbal notes, while Passerina offers citrus and yellow fruit characteristics. The Offida Rosso is a robust, age-worthy wine, requiring a minimum of 24 months of aging, including 12 months in wood, resulting in a complex profile of red fruits, licorice, and chocolate. The region's unique pedoclimatic conditions, characterized by deep, clay-rich soils and a Mediterranean climate with significant thermal excursions, provide an ideal environment for these traditional varieties. The DOCG status reflects the successful efforts of local producers to elevate these historic grapes through rigorous zonality studies and refined viticultural practices, moving away from traditional mixed farming toward specialized, high-quality production.
