Erbaluce di Caluso
About the wine
Erbaluce di Caluso is a distinctive DOCG from the Canavese area of Piedmont, centered on the unique, high-acid Erbaluce grape. This versatile variety is celebrated for its ability to produce three distinct styles: a crisp, dry white; a refined traditional-method sparkling wine; and a prized passito dessert wine. The region’s morainic soils, characterized by sand and pebbles, impart a signature freshness and mineral backbone to the wines. The dry version is known for its floral and citrus notes with a dry, vibrant finish, while the passito—often aged for several years—offers a complex, velvety profile with notes of dried fruit and honey. The traditional 'pergola calusiese' training system remains a hallmark of the local viticulture, reflecting a deep historical connection to the landscape. It is a rare example of a single-varietal denomination that excels across such a diverse spectrum of wine styles.
