About the wine

Nizza DOCG represents the pinnacle of Barbera production in the Asti province of Piedmont. Established as a distinct denomination in 2014, it mandates the use of 100% Barbera grapes, grown exclusively on the best-exposed hillside sites to ensure optimal ripening. The regulation emphasizes strict yield controls and a mandatory aging period, resulting in a wine of significant structure, complexity, and longevity. Characteristically, Nizza displays an intense ruby color that evolves toward garnet with age. On the nose, it offers a sophisticated bouquet of dark forest fruits, cherry, and plum, often complemented by balsamic, cocoa, and licorice notes derived from wood aging. On the palate, it is dry, full-bodied, and harmonious, balancing the natural acidity of the Barbera grape with a refined, rounded texture. By prohibiting enrichment and focusing on site-specific quality, Nizza stands as a testament to the historical and cultural importance of the Barbera variety in the Monferrato region.
