Recioto di Soave
About the wine
Recioto di Soave holds a distinguished place in Italian viticulture as the first wine from the Veneto region to be awarded DOCG status in 1998. This historic sweet wine, with roots dating back to the 5th century, is crafted primarily from Garganega grapes, which are traditionally dried (appassimento) to concentrate sugars and flavors. The name derives from 'recia' (ear), referring to the wing of the grape cluster traditionally used for hanging the bunches. The wine is produced in the volcanic, basalt-rich hills of the province of Verona, specifically within the Soave and Monteforte d'Alpone areas. It presents a golden yellow color with an intense, fruity bouquet often featuring hints of vanilla. On the palate, it is velvety, round, and sweet, with a minimum residual sugar of 70 g/l. A spumante version is also produced, offering a fine, persistent mousse. The wine must be aged until at least September 1st of the year following the harvest, ensuring a refined balance of acidity and sweetness.
