Terre Alfieri
About the wine
Terre Alfieri DOCG, recognized in 2020, represents a distinct viticultural area straddling the provinces of Asti and Cuneo in Piedmont. This denomination focuses on two primary varietals: the white Arneis and the red Nebbiolo. The wines are characterized by their strong connection to the hilly terrain, featuring clay-calcareous-sandy soils that provide excellent drainage and structure. Arneis wines are typically dry, fragrant, and possess a pleasant, slightly bitter finish, while the Nebbiolo-based wines are known for their ruby-to-garnet color, delicate floral notes—often reminiscent of violets—and a full, harmonious palate. The regulation allows for 'Superiore' and 'Riserva' designations, which mandate longer aging periods and higher alcohol levels, reflecting the commitment to quality production. The use of the 'vigna' mention is permitted for specific vineyard sites, further emphasizing the importance of terroir in this unique Piedmontese landscape.
