Brunello di Montalcino
About the wine
Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy's most prestigious red wines, produced exclusively from the Sangiovese grape in the hills surrounding the town of Montalcino in Tuscany. Recognized as a DOCG in 1980, it is celebrated for its remarkable longevity, structural elegance, and complex aromatic profile. The wine is characterized by an intense ruby-red color that evolves toward garnet with age, offering sophisticated notes of underbrush, aromatic wood, small red fruits, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is dry, robust, and harmonious, with firm tannins and a persistent finish. The production process is strictly regulated, requiring a minimum of two years of aging in oak containers and at least four months of bottle refinement before release. Due to its significant structure, Brunello is an ideal partner for rich, complex dishes such as red meats, game, and aged cheeses, though it is also highly regarded as a meditative wine to be enjoyed on its own.
