Montecucco Sangiovese
About the wine
Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG, elevated to its current status in 2011, represents the pinnacle of viticulture in the Maremma region of Tuscany. Situated between the slopes of Mount Amiata and the Ombrone river valley, this denomination focuses on the Sangiovese grape, which must comprise at least 90% of the blend. The wines are characterized by their deep ruby color, an elegant, vinous bouquet, and a structured, harmonious palate with fine tannins. The unique terroir—a mosaic of volcanic, sedimentary, and marly soils—combined with significant diurnal temperature shifts, imparts a distinct mineral complexity and freshness to the wines. The regulation mandates a minimum of 12 months of wood aging for the base wine and 30 months for the Riserva, ensuring a refined expression of the Sangiovese variety that balances power with the rustic elegance typical of this southern Tuscan landscape.
