Suvereto
About the wine
Suvereto DOCG, elevated to its own denomination in 2011, represents a prestigious enclave within the Maremma region of Tuscany. This red wine is defined by its exceptional terroir, characterized by sub-alkaline soils and a Mediterranean climate that ensures optimal ripening for international and native varieties. The denomination allows for both monovarietal wines—Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah—and blends, all of which must be produced within the administrative boundaries of the Suvereto commune. The wines are noted for their deep ruby color, structural harmony, and velvety tannins, often showing elegant spice and depth from wood aging. The production standards are rigorous, requiring a minimum of 4,000 vines per hectare and strict yield controls to ensure quality. The 'Riserva' designation requires a minimum of 24 months of aging, including at least one year in wood, resulting in wines of significant complexity and longevity that reflect the unique pedoclimatic conditions of this coastal Tuscan territory.
