About the wine

Val di Cornia Rosso DOCG represents a sophisticated expression of the Tuscan coast, centered around the communes of Suvereto and Sassetta in the province of Livorno, with extensions into Pisa. This denomination is defined by a unique blend where Sangiovese (minimum 40%) is paired with the international powerhouses of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (up to 60% combined). This structural foundation creates a wine that is typically ruby red, evolving toward garnet with age, characterized by a dry, harmonious, and velvety palate with good body and potential spicy notes. The coastal influence, combined with diverse soils ranging from alluvial to mineral-rich skarn deposits, imparts a distinct identity that balances Mediterranean warmth with elegant structure. The base wine requires aging until at least May of the second year following the harvest, while the Riserva designation demands a more rigorous maturation process, including a minimum of 18 months in wood and 6 months in bottle. It is a testament to the Maremma region's ability to produce high-quality, age-worthy red wines that bridge traditional Tuscan roots with international viticultural excellence.
